However, in some cases, you may find that the trashed files get deleted immediately allowing no scope for you to access the file from Trash.<\/p>\n<p>This issue usually occurs due to lack of reading\/write permissions or if your account\u2019s Trash has been deleted. Or it can also happen if you are no longer the owner of the account\u2019s Trash folder. In order to solve this problem and allow you to add files to your Trash, we provide some helpful solutions in this article. Please follow along.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Solution 1: Make sure you have read\/write permissions<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Having appropriate read\/write permissions for your account\u2019s Trash folder is necessary to be able to add files to Trash. So first let\u2019s check if you have that feature enabled.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Open <strong>Finder<\/strong> and click on <strong>Command + Shift + H<\/strong> keys<\/li>\n<li>In the contents of the home folder that opens, press the <strong>Command + I<\/strong> keys to open the <strong>Info<\/strong> window<\/li>\n<li>Select the<strong> Info<\/strong> window and open the <strong>Sharing &amp; Permissions <\/strong>panel<\/li>\n<li>If your account is not listed under \u2018<strong>Name<\/strong>\u2019 or you do not have Privilege for \u2018<strong>Read and Write<\/strong>\u2019, please set yourself these permissions<\/li>\n<li>Then log back in and check if the issue is resolved. If not, please proceed to the next step.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Solution 2: Verify that your Trash folder actually exists<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You will have trouble adding files to your Trash if your Trash folder is deleted. Yes it can happen; trash folders can get deleted due to various reasons. To see if that\u2019s the problem, let\u2019s check using the following steps.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open the <strong>Applications<\/strong> folder and select <strong>Utilities<\/strong> folder<\/li>\n<li>Then open <strong>Terminal <\/strong>and type the following command<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>\u2018ls ~\/.Trash\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li>Hit <strong>Return<\/strong> and if you see a message \u2018No such file or directory\u2019, restart your system<\/li>\n<li>Then log in again and see if you are able to delete files and see them in your Trash<\/li>\n<li>If not, you will have to create a new Trash folder as explained in the next step<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Solution 3: Create a new Trash folder<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This solution involves emptying the contents of your old Trash and creating a new one with the right ownership and permissions. To do this, follow the steps below<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Click on the <strong>Applications<\/strong> folder and select <strong>Utilities<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Then click on <strong>Terminal<\/strong> to open it<\/li>\n<li>In the command prompt, type the respective commands for the accounts you have<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For admin accounts: <strong>\u2018sudo rm \u2013ri \u00a0~\/.Trash\u2019 <\/strong>and hit Return<\/p>\n<p>User account: <strong>\u2018sudo rm \u2013ri \/Users\/your_user_name\/.Trash\u2019 <\/strong>and hit <strong>Return <\/strong>(Please replace your_user_name with the actual username)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Enter the admin password if it\u2019s the admin account<\/li>\n<li>You will be prompted to remove each file in the <strong>Trash <\/strong>folder and also the Trash folder. Click <strong>Yes <\/strong>and hit <strong>Return<\/strong> for each prompt that you receive<\/li>\n<li>Now, log out of your account and log in again<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You should now be able to delete files and see them as they appear in your new Trash folder.
